6 Months On…..
It occurred to me the other day that we are half way through another Society year. I started to think about how things were going and it is pleasing to see that we are getting good attendances at meetings and we are regularly seeing guests and new members.
It is also great to see so many of you coming forward with ideas, guest presenters, projects and suggestions. In fact we now have so many that we have a waiting list for free slots, which is very encouraging. Your Committee will do what it can to fit everyone in. Please keep the ideas and offers coming. If you have anything you want to contribute whether big or small, technical, artistic or just places and events near or far that you have photographed and want to share just let any of the Committee know. You may not get a slot straight away but we will get to you eventually.
Our monthly competitions are always very popular and we regularly have 50+ attending. Unfortunately the pool of Judges available to us is not that big and there has for some time been a shortage of new recruits. To address that, WPS recently ran a pilot project on behalf of PSNZ and organized a Judging Workshop here in Hamilton. The aim was to try and identify those who had the aptitude to Judge. There were 20 odd of us from around the Waikato, Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. The victims (sorry, attendees!!) included me, Ron Dean and Rose Kerin. Putting us through our paces were John Greenwood and Cliff Threadgold both of whom judge for us regularly. It was a really interesting and challenging day and we learnt heaps but believe me to do the job well isn’t as easy as it looks. Thanks guys. Expect to see one or two familiar faces coming to a Competition near you in the near future!
On behalf of the Committee thanks for your continuing support and we hope to keep Society meetings fresh and interesting for another 6 months at least.
Cheers,
Geoff
